I acquire clients at the Reid Law Firm from a multitude of sources. Many come from my alma mater, Samford University, or my church, Briarwood. Some are friends from social media, and a few come from my connections in government, politics, and radio. A substantial number of our clients though are referrals from past clients. This type of referral lets me know my clients are happy with my work, and for that I am extremely thankful.
What sets me apart from other attorneys in the area is my relationship with my clients. To me, each client is invaluable, and getting to help the people I’ve come to know is what makes my job worthwhile. I sit down in person with each client. I learn about their family and their jobs, and I try to locate the real source of their heartache.

Many lawyers view their cases linearly, which I believe is an unwise method of practice. I try to think outside the box. Clients are more than the charges with which they’ve been accused.
If my client is seeking a divorce, the first thing I want to do is make sure he or she feels safe. Next, I want to understand their reasoning for coming in. It’s important to me that my clients feel supported. I’ve recommended many past clients see a counselor or join a youth group. I am not an advocate for divorce, and if there is an alternative, that is the route I will always promote. There are many though who are left with no other choice but to separate, and for those individuals, I will do everything in my power to help them.
We see clients at exciting times (when starting a new business or adopting a child) and at very difficult times (following a recent arrest, going through a divorce, or filing the estate of a deceased loved one). We feel our clients’ pains, and we want to be there for them. We want to decrease the stresses in their lives and let them know they’ve got someone fighting tirelessly for them in their corner.
When we meet each client, we always ask for his or her goals. Outside of the law, is there anything we can do? We want to make sure the client is mentally stable and get them help if necessary. We don’t just look at the legal side of the issue. What we really want is to get to the root of the problem. We aren’t here to simply get a DUI off someone’s record. We aim to represent non-violent criminal defense clients who demonstrate genuine penitence for their offenses. We want our clients to understand the gravity of their actions and empower them to make smarter and safer decisions moving forward. Instead of having a conviction on their record that prevents them from ever getting a job again, I’d rather have my client perform hours of community service. There are many programs available for those who show repentance. If we got a possession charge off the client’s record but they continued to have a drug addiction problem and were arrested again in six months, I would not consider that a success. I want to better the lives of others, not give them a get out of jail free card.
